Upbury Manor Journey to Switzerland guide 1979The distant past...

Back in 1979 I attended Upbury Manor School, Gillingham Kent.
In the summer of that year, the school organised a holiday to Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland.

The trip consisted on a two day journey from England, through Belgium and West Germany (remember this was pre-unification), before arriving in Switzerland. A six night stay in Switzerland, before the two day return journey.

The school provided a 1/4 inch A4 booklet detailing the journey, attractions and other useful information.

...28 years later

Well, it’s 28 years later and my brother (Brian Chidley) has suggested that we recreate the journey. My answer was an enthusiastic yes!

As we have two weeks and the world has moved on from the seventies, we decided that the journey would need to be extended.

So from 16th September 2007, we will be leaving the UK and travelling through France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

We are hoping to do the following acitivies along the way:
  • Drive round the Nurbergring race track in Germany
  • Walking up Feldberg en Tanus,Frankfurt
  • Visiting Interlaken, Switzerland
  • See Geneva
  • Visit Monaco
  • tour the Piaggio factory/museum in Pontedera
  • Visit Venice
  • Cross the Millau Viaduct
  • Visit/Drive at LeMons
...oh yes, get back to Calais by 00:15 30th September for the return to Britain!
