07:30ish - After a rough night where the rain kept us awake, we decided to check the tent. It had several large puddles. We knew we had to get a new tent or face sleeping in the care for the next few days. |

| 08:21 - Left for Gorßen Feldberg |
09:05 - We reached the hotel at the top of Gorßen Feldberg, called the Feldberghof. My brother had visited this site several times as part of an annual trek with a Germany based friend. This annual trek consists of walking from the bottom to the top of Gorßen Feldberg, stopping at the pub 3/4 of the way up, the restaurant at the top(for more drinks) and the same pub on the way down. The title given to this trek is... 'P*ss-up a mountain'.
Rather than go up (the weather is still pretty bad), we decided to go from the top and walk to the pub 3/4 of the way down and walk backup to the restaurant for a mid day meal (it does not open until 10am during the summer). After this we could go to Frankfurt to access the Internet and purchase a new tent. |
| 11:30ish - We reached the restaurant. We tried a German meal which consisted of a Pork Pate (called Fleischkäse), served with a fried egg and roast potatoes (it was über). |
| 13:00 - Left for Frankfurt town centre |
14:00 - Parked in a multi-story car park in Frankfurt town centre. We had a slight problem with the car park though. Initially you enter the Parkhaus from the right side. We you enter this car park you are given a red coin rather than a ticket. Rather than taking a sharp left and up the ramp, we continued into the car park and found ourselves immediately infront of the exit barrier! A kind local lady assisted us and suggested that we just carefully reverse back to the entrance and take the left turn (this was when we realised our mistake).
We walked up and down Frankfurt’s main shopping area and could not any camping shops or cyber cafes. On taking a side road I spotted a sign saying Internet @ Cyber Ryder. after several more signs (and side roads), we reach Cyber Ryder, which was Frankfurt’s first Cyber café, est. 1995. I was able to upload some of the pages to the web site before my laptop died (we have been using the laptop for GPS for most of the trip). On leaving the café, we past a Jack Wolfskin stored and was able to purchase a new two man tent. Shortly after that we returned to the Parkhaus. The red coin is micro chipped, holding the entry time. Using the pay machine, the red coin is returned and primed to allow you to leave (within 30 minutes). Red coin in hand we returned to the car and left the car park. |
17:44 - Still trying to leave Frankfurt! The one-way system and spaghetti motorway connections have caused used to loop the left side of the city several times! Eventual got the laptop working from the PowerRing 135 power unit (recharged after looping Frankfurt). We headed back to Nürburgring, as there is a camp nearby and we do want to go around the Nordschleife at least once. |
19:16 - We reached the camp at Nürburgring as the sun was setting. The camp has the lazy name of Camping am Nürburgring. They were the first camp not to accept the full money, but rather took a deposit and Brian’s passport, with the even attached plastic wrist-bands to us for quick identification that we were campers. We had to learn to put the tent up in the dark, and the powering 135 power unit’s bright light was essential to complete the task. |
